"Study to thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth". 2Tim. 2:15.
The wisdom of this apostolic command is evident. In order to please God one must know the right way, also, one cannot teach what he does not know; and to avoid being misled [deceived] one must "prove all things". 1Tim. 4:1, 2 says " Now the spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith; giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron"... .So there is a faith established in the word of God, from which some would depart in the latter [last] times, by speaking lies in hypocrisy. Jude v.3. admonishes us "that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints."
Doctrine means teaching, a thing taught, a principle of belief. Since "all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine..." 2 Tim.3:16 (first part) then; doctrine not supported by the word of God is unprofitable. In Deut. 18:22 we read, "When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him".
William Miller, the founder of the Advent Movement is one such prophet. He predicted that Christ would come in 1844. That prediction caused a worldwide deception. This study would prove that the Investigative Judgement is not a doctrine taught or supported by the scriptures, the word of God; but that it is a doctrine of convenience, concocted to explain an obvious deception that took place in 1844, the year of the great disappointment.
Quoting from a book called Daniel and Revelation by Uriah Smith beginning at page 665 2nd para: "When Christ did not come in 1844, the entire Adventist body was thrown into more or less confusion... A few searched closely and candidly for the cause of the mistake... They learned that the sanctuary referred to was the temple in heaven, which Paul calls "the sanctuary", the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched and not man". They saw further that it's cleansing, according to the type would consist of the final ministration of the priest in the second apartment, or Most Holy Place. They then understand that the time had come for the fulfillment of Rev. 11:19. "The temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament"... Their attention was turned to the ark and the Law... and the Sabbath.... No one who admits the argument on the sanctuary disputes this point". End of quote.
So when Christ did not come in 1844, they sought for the error and found that:
The sanctuary was not the earth, but the temple in heaven.
The cleansing has to do with the final ministration of the priest in the Most Holy Place, and
Their attention turned to the ark and the law and the Sabbath.
THE FINDINGS
According to Mr Smith, they found that the sanctuary.... was the temple in heaven, and the cleansing had to do with the final ministration of the priest in the Most Holy Place. The clear inference that Christ is ministering in the heavenly sanctuary in a manner akin to the earthly high priest is not only wrong, but also bordering on blasphemy. Can the high priest of the order of Melchisedec adopt and perpetuate the ministration of Levi? Not at all. Heb. 7:11-28 is very enlightening; read it. Verse 11 says, "If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the Law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?" Verse 12, "For the priesthood being changed there is of necessity a change also of the Law". The ministry of Levi was imperfect; the ministry of Melchisedec is perfect.
Jesus cannot follow the pattern of Aaron’s ministry, because the Law governing Aaron's ministry is now changed. Christ is the high priest of a very different order. Heb. 7:14. "For it is evident that Jesus sprang out of Judah; of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood".
The claim by Mr Smith that "the cleansing of the Sanctuary according to the type, would consist of the final ministration of the Priest in the second apartment, or Most Holy Place" is implying that Christ went into the Most Holy Place in 1844 to begin this ministration. In the pattern of the worldly sanctuary, the Most Holy Place represents the throne room of the Eternal. See Hebrews 9:1-7. Did Jesus go into the presence of the Father in 1844? Not at all! Jesus went straight to the right hand of God since He left this earth, since His ascension. In the book of Acts 7:55 we read "But *he (that is Stephen) being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God." That was in 33AD. Colossians 3:1 says, "If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God." 64AD. Hebrews 10:11 & 12 says "And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering often times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, After he had offered one sacrifice for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;" Halleluyah.! Yes Sir, That one sacrifice was made here on earth, and it was and is enough to cleanse all sins and purify all defilements both here on earth and in Heaven. Christ has not moved from the right hand of God since he went there after his ascension in 33AD.
We quote Heb.9:23 & 24, "It was necessary that the pattern of things in the heavens should be purified with these; (blood of bulls and goats) but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. (blood of Christ). For Christ is not entered into the Holy Places made with hands, which are the figures of the true: but into heaven itself, NOW TO APPEAR in the PRESENCE of God for us:" Yes Christ went into the presence of God for us since he left this earth. *Stephen saw him there in 33AD. He did not go there in 1844. No Sir.
Mr Uriah Smith insists "No one who admits the argument on the Sanctuary, disputes this point." That argument as put forward by Mr. Smith and his colleagues is certainly wrong. The sanctuary that was to be cleansed according to Dan.8: that Mr Miller misrepresented, was not the heavenly sanctuary but the earthly one that was defiled by the Heathen Syrian King ANTIOCHUS EPIPHANES, and that was cleansed by JUDAS MACHABEUS. (See booklet "1844 - A Year Of Deception".) We therefore do not admit the argument on the sanctuary, and therefore dispute the point.
Let us examine another quotation from Mr. Smith's Daniel and Revelation. "Thus the Sabbath reform was brought to view; and it was seen that whatsoever had been done in opposition to this law, especially in the introduction of a day of rest and worship which destroyed the Sabbath of Jehovah, must be the work of the papal beast, that power which was to oppose God, to attempt to change his laws and try to exalt himself above God. But this is the exact work in reference to which the third angel utters his warning. Hence it began to be seen by the believers of 1844 that the period of the third angel's message synchronises with the period of the cleansing of the sanctuary, which began with the ending of the 2300 days in 1844, and that the proclamation is based on the great truths developed by this subject." End of Quote.
Everything is twisted or seen to prove that 1844 did something great. The movement is even described as "believers of 1844". And yet, after all these -becoming clear-, -and it was seen, - it is still not seen by Mr Smith et al; that the very foundation of the doctrine is false and to be repented of. The 2300 days of Dan.8: 14 referred to literal days. The margin of my bible says evening and morning. It concerns literal sacrifices that could not take place in the mornings and evenings as commanded by God in Ex. 29:38-9 and Num. 28:3 & 4, because of an occupation force hostile to God and the service of God. It lasted 2300 days before Judas called Machabeus routed this foreign blasphemous power and restored the worship of God in the temple. 1 Macc. 4:36-53. *
On the Sabbath question. Was it only in 1844 it became clear that it was the papal beast that tampered with God's Law? That is what Mr. Smith is saying in the preceding quotation. However, the fourth beast began tampering with the Law of God in 321AD, and again in 364AD. The papal beast confirmed the act in 538AD. But only in 1844 AD the Advent movement saw that. That's forgivable, since the movement started only then. The Church of God was founded since 33AD in Palestine and knew long before 1844 that the papal beast tampered with the Law of God. Men such as Polycarp and Dr.Arius, staunch defenders of the faith were not of the Advent movement; these men knew about these things centuries before 1844. Now it is (wrongly) claimed that even the "Third Angel's Message" synchronises with the period of the cleansing of the sanctuary, which began in 1844. Everything is made to apologise for 1844, the year of the great deception. Where was truth before 1844?
THE JUDGEMENT SCENE IN HEAVEN? WHAT?
We pick up the story in the Beacon Lights of Prophecy: under the heading INVESTIGATIVE JUDGEMENT. Pg 106. Last para. "In that year, therefore (1844) the time came for the opening of the judgement scene in heaven, described in Dan. 7:9 & 10. From that year onward until the solemn service is finished, the gospel message is due the world, "The hour of his judgement is come"... The prophecy was given in order that we in this generation may know that the judgement hour has come in heaven above. This great tribunal first passes upon the cases of the dead from the days of Adam down... Some day that solemn review of the record books of heaven will come to the living". End of Quote.
The prophecy in Dan.7: 1-11 speaks about the four beasts, and that at the end of their reign the judgement would take place. Verses 17 & 18 say, "These great beasts, which are four, are four kings, which shall arise out of the earth. But the saints of the Most High shall take the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever." Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece and Rome have ruled the world, the judgement will take place next. The coming of Christ to judge is the ushering in of the fifth and final world kingdom referred to in Dan. 2:44 & 45, as the stone kingdom. That is the order of events in the prophecy. It has nothing to do with an investigative judgement in heaven.
Dan. 7:21 & 22 explains further, "I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them; UNTIL the Ancient of days came, and judgement was given to the saints of the Most High; and the time came that the saints possessed the Kingdom." Read also verses 23-26 and see that this kingdom would be UNDER the whole heaven that is, on the earth. The prophet was shown in vision, things that must come to pass upon earth.
When will this so-called great tribunal pass to the living? And, is the dead being judged now from Adam down? If the judgement would come to the living someday, when will that of the dead cease? For that to happen, there must be a time when people would stop dying or else there will always be some dead to be judged. People die every day. Further, does the bible speak of a time, prior to the coming of Christ, when people will stop dying? Of course NOT.
However, the bible does say when the judgement will take place. 2Tim. 4:1 "I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, Who shall judge the quick and the dead at his APPEARING and his KINGDOM." The text is clear, the dead would not be judged in heaven before Christ comes. Also Christ does not begin to judge until he comes in his kingdom. He will judge both quick and dead when he appears in his kingdom, not before. There is an appointed day for him to judge the world. Acts 17:31. That day is not before Jesus comes, and no man knows the day or the hour, when he will come.
We refer to Page 314 of the Beacon Lights of Prophecy under the heading, A CLEAR PICTURE- We quote "The picture of the prophecy is plain. Before Christ comes in glory there must be a judgement work in heaven, determining who are righteous and who are unrighteous. There is no time when he appears for such a work of investigation or judgement. When Christ appears, the apostle tells us, the righteous "shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed". End of Quote.
Truly, when Christ comes in glory, the righteous would be changed in the twinkling of an eye, but that is not because of an Investigative Judgement that started in 1844, neither is it because he has no time as is supposed. When a sinner repents, he acknowledges that he is worthy of death and seeks forgiveness. He is forgiven and washed in the blood of Christ, made clean and white. This man was judged, condemned and pardoned. That is the message of the gospel. His name is recorded in the lamb's book of life. Once he maintains his walk with God, when Christ comes, whether he is alive or dead, he is known as one of the Redeemed. "The Lord knoweth them that are his." 2Tim. 2:19, so he is changed in a moment.
COMING TO JUDGE
Ps.96:12 & 13 says "Let the field be joyful, and all that is therein: then shall all the trees of the wood rejoice before the Lord: for he cometh, for he cometh to judge the earth: he shall judge the world with righteousness and the people with his truth." Ps.98:8-9. "Let the floods clap their hands: Let the hills be joyful together before the Lord; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity". See also 1Chr. 16:33. All these scriptures say that the Lord is coming to judge, not judging to come. It must be remembered that Jesus is coming to reward the righteous and judge the wicked. Notice what the apostle Paul said in Rom. 2:16. "In the day when God shall judge the *secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel". When would that day be? Before he comes? No Sir! We read in 1 Cor. 4:5 "Therefore judge nothing before the time, UNTIL the LORD COME, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest *the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God". The scriptures are plain. Jesus will judge when he comes. Now whom would you believe God or the advent movement? Let God be true and every man a liar. Rom. 3:4.
Page 318, Beacon Lights of Prophecy, under the heading-THE MOVEMENT AROSE; Quote "And when the year 1844 brought the opening of the judgement hour in heaven, the advent movement of the prophecy came on earth. It was in the year 1844 that a company of believers in the Second Advent recognised in scripture a call of God to loyalty to the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus... These bible students saw clearly that the church authority had no power to change the Law of God or to set Sunday of ecclesiastical tradition in place of the Sabbath day which God had made holy. They thereupon began to keep the Sabbath of the Lord their God". End of quote.
These bible students were only able to see the need to keep God's Sabbath holy in 1844 when Jesus did not come. Thank God he did not come at that time. Let me reiterate that there was a church from the days of the early apostles that had always kept the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. It is called twelve times in the New Testament, the Church of God.
The doctrine of Investigative Judgement is only an apology, an elaborate yet futile attempt to explain the great deception that was perpetrated on the world beginning in the year 1844, by the Advent Movement. This movement must fall under the searchlight of the word of God as a deceptive movement. Come out of her my people; what concord hath Christ with Belial, what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness, and what communion hath light with darkness? NONE.
"And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be". Rev 22:12.
JEREMIAH 7 - SELF-DECEPTION AND MINGLED RELIGION
It is time for the watchmen to blow the trumpet: destruction is all around us and Christ is pleading that we should amend our ways. It is only when we walk fully in the word of YHWH we will be able to receive of His manifold blessings, therefore let us take heed to the word of YHWH, to obey is much better than to sacrifice.
